THE SHOPPING APP EXPLAINED
You may or may not have noticed a few posters around the club about Easyfundraising.
This a new Fund-Raising opportunity to help raise much needed funds for your club at no extra cost to you.
Here is what you need to do…
1. Scan the QR Code on the poster or go to https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk and sign up for a free account.
2. Search for and select “Colchester Indoor Bowls Club” as the cause that you want to donate to.
3. Download the app from either the Apple app store or the Google play store and sign into the app with your new Easyfundraising account. You can also do this from your computer.
4. Use the app or web browser to do your online shopping. Select the brand that you want to do your shopping from, let’s say you want to shop on Amazon, search for and select Amazon within the Easyfundraising app, you will then be taken to the Amazon website, sign into your Amazon account and shop as you normally would. Once you have completed your purchase Amazon will donate a percentage of the money you have spent to us at no extra cost to you.
Note: using the app to do your shopping does not affect your loyalty points from any vendor, you still receive them.

COLCHESTER LADIES WIN TIGHT MATCH AGAINST IPSWICH
CIBC ladies knocked out Ipswich ladies in the Vivienne National Competition despite only winning on one of the four rinks. A 26 – 9 win by CIBC skip Karen Remirez and her team Olive Hawkins and Joan Evans, ensured an overall shot count victory. At home CIBC had one win and a loss. Away from home CIBC had a loss and a draw. At home the shot count favoured CIBC by 41=28 while away from home Ipswich prevailed 38 – 29. Overall CIBC had 70 shots to Ipswich 66.
Away from home CIBC skip Judy Bohannon playing with Edna Woods and Stephanie Heard got off to a slow start losing the first three ends. They battled back to lead 8-7 after 8 ends. Unfortunately on the 9th and 10th ends Ipswich picked up 3 shots on each end to lead 13-9 after 10 ends. From the 13th to the 18th ends CIBC ladies only won one end and Ipswich won 23-14.
On the other away rink CIBC skip Lesley Weedon and team Melanie Joseph and Shirley Mills battled to a honourable draw. In a game that saw the lead change a number of times. After 15 ends CIBC had a 3 shot lead. They lost the next two ends and trailed by 2 shots. They managed to score 2 on the final end to draw 15-15.
At home CIBC skip Karen Leatherdale and team Trish Cowell and Sharon Tuxford also got off to a slow start and they were soon down 0-6 after 2 ends. After 9 ends they had slipped further back as they trailed 5-14. CIBC made their move between the 11th and 13th ends Helped by a 6 on the 12th end they had cut the difference to 13 – 15. After 15 ends the score was 15-16. However, Ipswich won the last 3 ends and the game 19-15.
In the final game Karen Ramirez and her team only lost 5 of the 18 ends. At one point they won 6 ends in a row picking up 10 shots. They won the game 26-9 to ensure the CIBC’s overall shot count win.
The next round will be against Falcon in January.

The fixtures are now on Bowlr so games can now be planned. It is essential everyone books rinks early, there are in total 92 matches to be played before the close of the round on Sunday 4th February 2024.

GEORGE WOOTTON
It is with great sadness to announce that George Wootton passed away on Thursday 23rd November.
George had been a member here at CIBC for many years, he always had a smile on his face, and it was a pleasure to know him.
George will be missed by his Wife Lorna, his family and all his friends.
George’s funeral will be held at Colchester Crematorium at 11am on Monday 8th January and then onto CIBC for the wake.
(The family have requested no flowers please.)

Club Competitions
Game Duration: To assist with rink bookings all matches (apart from the semi-final and final) can, with agreement of both teams, be played as a 2-hour single-rink timed game. All singles games will be the first to 21 shots or 2 hours whichever comes first. To maximise playing time no visiting the head will be allowed. For fours’ games there will be no ‘threes-up’. As this is a recent innovation in response to a lack of rink space on Weekday evenings, please contact me if there are any queries.
Markers: In all singles games the original challenger in the draw always retains the responsibility to find a marker. This still applies where the original opponent has through lack of contact had to arrange the match.

UNPAID SUBS
After many reminders being sent out via email or letter, we still have some outstanding subs that are now two months overdue. Therefore, as of this Thursday (30th November) any members with outstanding subs will be marked as “Left” which means that you will no longer be able to book rinks via Bowlr, and you will also disappear from any leagues that you play in.
Once you have been marked as left then there will be a £20 late payment fee incurred.
If you have received a reminder and have not acted on it or think it is a mistake, then please call the Duty Steward to update our records.
If you have already paid then please provide proof of payment, i.e., Date and method of payment. No late payment fee will be incurred.

JOHN PETTICAN
It is with great sadness to announce that John Pettican passed away Wednesday 25th October.
John will be missed by his wife Peggy, his family and all his friends here at CIBC and at West End BC where he had been a member for many years.
John’s funeral will be held at Colchester Crematorium on Thursday 23rd November at 12.15pm.
The wake will be held at The Queens Head, West Bergholt after the service.

The club competitions now officially start. To ensure rink availability it is necessary to amend the playing arrangements.
Challengers now only need to offer one date to their opponent either on a weekday evening or at the weekend. Alternative dates can be agreed by mutual consent, including during weekdays for those who are able to play at those times.

It is with great sadness to announce that John Amesbury passed away on Sunday 22nd October.
John had been a member here at CIBC for many years both as an active playing member then as a social member.
John’s funeral will be held at Colchester crematorium on November 8th at 2,30pm and then onto CIBC for the wake.
John will be missed by his family and all his friends here at CIBC.

The official competition start is the 6th November. With agreement of your opponent, you can book rinks now. The 1st round closing date is Sunday 10th December. Following this another 4 competitions will start. With so many entries there will be no extensions unless there are exceptional circumstances.

New Bowlers New Members Open League 4 Wood Pairs
The Club is proposing the above as a Ladder League on Sunday Afternoons / Evenings or midweek if rink space is available with a small entry fee of £1 per person.
You will be responsible for challenging the Pair above you i.e., Number 9 challenges Number 8. If 9 beats 8 then 9 moves up a place on the ladder and 8 drops down. You will also need to book the rink yourselves (2-hour sessions); normal rink fees apply.
The pairs will be drawn, this will give you the opportunity of getting to know your fellow members and getting league experience. You can make as many challenges as you want enabling you to move up the Ladder quicker.
If the person you are challenging refuses to play for whatever reason the challenger automatically moves up the ladder, with the League Secretary’s approval.
All completed score cards to be put in League Secretary’s pigeonhole making sure both teams have signed the card.
The winner will be the pair who have won the most matches on the closing date (to be confirmed).
To enter please add your details on the list located on the club’s noticeboard, start date to be confirmed.

The games were played in the right spirit to a high standard and the selectors now have a tough job picking teams for the Denny, Egham, London & Southern Counties, and County League. Whilst continuity will be important, as it is still early in the season teams can change, as current form will be taken into account.

Dear Members
Life Membership is our Club’s highest honour, and awarded to those members who have made a significant contribution over many years.
To ensure that their exemplary work is fully recorded in our Club’s history, l thought it appropriate that our recent recipients work was formally acknowledged in addition to their mention at the 2022 and 2023 AGM meetings.
Ashley Hanmer: For the best part of a decade Ashley was our Hon Secretary. Bringing a wealth of experience from his military and business careers he was responsible for introducing a range of innovations and improvements to our Club. These included the heating/cooling system, solar panels, new flooring and ICT upgrades. This was in addition to the many daily tasks to keep the Club running smoothly, and coordinating the Club’s many activities. He was also a central figure in the Club’s response to Covid. An elite player he represented the County and Club at the highest levels, together with being a fully qualified coach.
Mike Cranfield: As our Hon Treasurer Mike took over from Derek Wheeler. As an Accountant Mike’s experience was invaluable in looking after the Club’s finances. A complex task requiring a significant skill set to ensure compliance with a range of rules and regulations.
Zelma French: Our Lady Captain for many years, Zelma led with great distinction and much success. In recent years this included masterminding the winning of the Vivienne Trophy, a National tournament. Zelma was an elite bowler having represented the County and Club at the highest levels. She was also a central figure organising our many social activities. Zelma continues to support the work of the Committee in her new role of Hon Vice President.
Mike Waite: A familiar figure around the Club for many years, Mike has been responsible for maintaining the Club on a day to day basis. From very early starts on a winter’s morning cleaning the carpet, to up a ladder late at night attending to the latest emergency. Most of this work above and beyond his normal duties, and always most reliable and responsive to the Club’s needs. As an elite bowler Mike has represented the County and Club at the highest levels and with much success.
Ashley, Mike, Zelma and Mike have between them contributed so much to the running of our Club. We sincerely thank them for all they have achieved. A lasting legacy they can rightly be very proud of.
If you would like to build on this legacy, and contribute to the running of your Club, whether in a formal or informal way, please speak to Keith Cullis (Club Manager), Dean French (Interim Hon Secretary) or myself. Volunteers are most welcome and we need your support.

It is with great sadness to announce that Martin Moriarty passed away on Sunday 17th September.
Martins’ funeral will be held at Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church on Thursday 5th October at 11.30am followed by an internment at Colchester Cemetery at 1.00pm.
The wake will be held at Stanway Rovers football club New Farm Road from 1.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Martin will be missed by his wife Liz, family and all his friends here at CIBC where he had been a member for many years.

You will be aware that the bowling sub committee has been working hard over the past few months designing your new club shirt.
Listening to your feedback, we were able to design a shirt that the majority of members were in favour of and now need to place orders for the new season.
Therefore, if you are looking to represent the club in either County or National competitions from October 1st 2023 you MUST wear the new club shirt along with black trousers, shorts or skirt.
In order for us to get these in stock for you before the start of the new season, we require members who wish to represent the club, to visit before Friday 18th August to try on sample shirts, record your shirt size and pay for the shirt before ordering. The cost of the new shirt is £25.
Please ensure you inform the member of staff on duty behind the bar of your name, required size, and number of shirts required. We will require payment before your order can be placed.
Black trousers, skirts & shorts can also be ordered from the club shop should you require. Please ensure you provide your measurements to the bar staff when ordering.
Payment for all items will be taken at the time of ordering.
Once we have all the information required, we will then place the orders. We estimate the lead time to be approx. 6 weeks, therefore please ensure you visit the club before Friday August 18th at the latest, to order your new shirt(s) and/or trousers/skirts/shorts, if required.

It is with great sadness to announce that David passed away on Sunday 30th July.
David was Club Captain here at CIBC for many years, a respected member of the committee and a Life member.
David will be missed by Wife Jackie, Daughter Hazel and everyone here at CIBC.

It is with great sadness to announce that Dave Nugent passed away on Wednesday 26th July 2023
Dave will be missed by his Wife Michelle, his son and daughter in law Brian and Helen, his daughter and son in law Clare and Bryan, Grandchildren Jasmin and Noah and all here at CIBC.
Dave had been a member here at CIBC for many years and was a volunteer in our Bowls Shop.

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of the passing of Helen Butler during the afternoon of Saturday 13th May 2023 at St Helena Hospice.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with Steve and their children Mark and Diane and the rest of their family at this difficult time.
The Funeral will be held on Tuesday 13th June 2023 at Colchester Crematorium at 2pm.
It was Helens wish that anyone attending wear Bright Colourful clothing.

This weekend CIBC will be holding it’s club finals spread across three days – Friday 21st April – Sunday 23rd April inclusive.
On Friday there will be three singles finals taking place, all commencing at 7.30pm.
Saturday sees us holding more finals at 10.00am, with further games set for Sunday at 10.00am & 2.30pm.
Full details of the three day schedule of events are listed on the club noticeboard, posted here on the website & on Facebook.
Over the three days the bar will be open offering refreshments and in addition our catering facilities will be open for all players, officials & spectators to enjoy.
All players taking part in these finals, along with all officials, will be entitled to a free main course.
Why not come and join us as we bring the Winter season to a close.

NATIONAL COMPETITION ENTRIES
All entries for National competitions summer or winter events MUST be made via the EIBA website yourselves.
Summer closing date is 16th April 2023.
Winter closing date is 4th June 2023.

New EIBA individual summer competitions
The committee has agreed members can enter the new summer EIBA competitions ( men’s and women’s singles, Open pairs and triples) – using the online competition portal by the 16th April.
Entrants will need to bear in mind the limited opening hours of the club at weekends and the possibility of having to play a home fixture away should their opposition demand a weekend date.

We are sad to announce the passing of Bader Durrani.
Bader passed away on 12/3/23.
The funeral will be at Colchester crematorium on Tuesday 4TH April at 1.15PM.
The wake will be at Colchester Indoor Bowls Club after the service.
Bader will be missed by his wife Audrey and Daughters Sue and George and by all here at CIBC.

Jim passed away peacefully on 10th February 2023.
Jim will be missed by Tina & David Fisher, Graham, Janet, family and friends.
The service will take place on 2nd March at Colchester Crematorium at 11.45 am the wake will be at West End Bowls Club after the service.

Wednesday morning Summer Red & Blue Triples League
If you are interested in playing in this league, please put your name on the sheet in the club. The teams will be drawn into teams of 6 with a specified team leader, the leagues have been running for many years and are especially good for new members as you get to meet a lot of your fellow members.
Summer League starts the first week in May and ends the last week in September.

New Bowler and Junior Tournament
Sunday 26th March 2023
The club would like to give new and junior bowlers the opportunity to play in a knockout tournament and have representation at the club finals.
We propose to hold a set-play singles tournament comprised of an initial round-robin league leading to quarter and semi-finals on the day. The final will be played over the club finals weekend (Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd April 2023).
The entry requirements will be as follows.
· Bowlers with less than 2 years bowling experience, indoor or outdoor as of 1/10/22, or
· Any junior bowler under 18 before 1/10/22.
The entry fee will be £6 and refreshments will be available from the bar and kitchen. The event will start at 13:00 and finish in the early evening depending on game durations.
The draw and playing arrangements will be confirmed once competitor numbers are known.
An entry list will be posted on the noticeboard.

Notice of Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM)
Please note that there will be an EGM of the club to be held on Friday 24thFebruary 2023 commencing 7pm at Fitzgilbert Road, Colchester CO2 7XB.
The meeting is a single item agenda to seek members approval change item 14 of the current constitution to allow the main committee to amend the constitution prior to ratification of any such changes by the clubs membership at either the AGM or Spring Meeting or Special Members EGM.
