CIBC ladies came up against County Arts over 2 home and away rinks in the area final. CIBC won on both home rinks with a shot count of 53-15. On the away rinks each team won a game with the shot count 40-40.
At home CIBC skip Karen Leatherdale played with Olive Hawkins, Joy Tingay and Polly Josh. They were up against P. Eves, P. Tomlinson, S. Flower and J. Skipper. (Who wasn’t the skip.) Things did not go well for the visitors, and they found themselves 1-18 down after 12 ends. Things did not improve for County as they won just 2 of the next 9 ends and CIBC won 34-3.
On the other home rink CIBC skip Pam Smith playing with Sharon Lunnon as lead, Marion Bailey and Leah Claireaux got off to a slow start against County skip C. Webb and her team S. Hunt T. Barraclough and H. Watkins. The visitors won the first two ends and the 4th but the scores were tied 3-3 after 5 ends. The lead changed twice over the next 2 ends, but it was all even again at 5-5 after 8. CIBC lost the next 3 ends and were down 5-10 with 10 ends to play. And play they did. CIBC won 8 of the last 10 and took the game 19-12.
Away from home CIBC skip Loraine Daden had Beverley Oakes, Francis Smith, and Gail Barrett in her team. However, County skip playing with M. Watson, K. Akers and D. Jenkins got off to a dream 7-0 lead after two ends. The CIBC ladies then won the next 4 ends to lead 9-7 after 6 ends. Both teams gained 3 shots over the next 2 ends before County again went on a spree of winning 5 ends to lead 20-12 after 13 ends. Both teams won 4 of the final 8 ends and County ran out 28-19 winners.
Liz Tunn, playing with Tina Fisher, Jill Nicholson and Gill Costin playing on the other away rink also got off to a shaky start, and found themselves 2-9 down after 7 ends. Then it was the turn of County skip E. McMillian, and team L. Cushion, S. Leighton and M. Lutkin to falter and lose 4 ends, but they still led 9-8. CIBC ladies pulled level with the hosts after 16 ends, (12-12) before ending with a dream finishing flourish, winning 4 in a row and finishing winners, 21-12.
