CIBC were up against Falcon BC in Top Club action at the weekend. Unfortunately, Falcon flew home as victors. All the games were played at home. CIBC lost the FOURS and the TRIPS and won the MIXED PAIRS and the men’s 2 WOOD SINGLES. They also lost the ladies 2 WOOD SINGLES. CIBC earned 6 points to 10 by Falcon.
Two of CIBC’s losses were by a single shot. Thus, they were only a couple of shots away from overall victory. The overall shot count was 88-74 in favour of CIBC,. However, overall shots are not a factor in this format.
In the MIXED FOURS CIBC skip Shaun Cook had in this team Beverley Oakes, Pam Smith and Elliot Mann. They got off a bright start and were 5 – 0 up after two ends. Then the Falcon’s swooped into the lead by winning the next five ends, (5 – 9). After ten ends CIBC were behind 9 – 10, but did not fare too well over the last eight ends and lost the game 13 – 20.
The MIXED TRIPS was a very close event. CIBC skip Jack Butcher played with Leah Claireux and Bradley Mann. It was a very tight game from start to finish. The lead changed no less than ten times over the 18 ends and scores were tied on five occasions. It was in the early ends that CIBC tended to nick the lead but in latter ends the score tended to favour Falcon. The biggest shot margin between the teams was 4 after 12 ends but then CIBC brought it back to 10 -10 after 14. In the end CIBC lost 12-13.
In the MIXED PAIRS Dan Rodger and Liz Tunn extended their run of wins, which stretchers back a number of seasons now, with another a big win. Other than the scores being tied 4 – 4 after five ends the CIBC pair lead after every other end and won comfortably by 22 – 9.
In the MENS 2 WOOD SINGLES CIBC’s Andy Squire was up against Falcon’s Paul Harrison. Andy quickly went into the lead winning the first two ends. After 8 ends he was 7 – 4 up, still all to play for. However, after winning the next eight ends the score was 19 – 4 and it was game over. The final score was 21 – 11, a good fight back by Paul to take the game on for another five ends.
The game of the day was in the LADIES 2 WOOD SINGLES. CIBC’s Sharon Lunnen was up against Falcon’s Sue Jones. This game lasted 30 ends and its way was the decider.
Sharon started well, winning the first three ends but lost the next three, score after seven 6 – 5. After 18 ends nothing much had really happened except now Sue was in the lead, (11 – 12). For the entire match biggest shot difference between Sharon and Sue were the 4 shots Sharon got in the first three ends. After the 18th Sharon continued to chip away and Sue continued to peck away, neither able to pull out a telling lead. (Well, they only had two woods each). But as the scores near 20 shots the end was near. After 28 ends the scores were tied 19 – 19. Sharon won the 29th end but only with one wood. Sue took her chance on the 30th end to win 20 -21.
